Historic Deceptions

"History is the lie commonly agreed upon." - Voltaire

Terrorism isn't just the work of scary looking guys in caves and so-called rebel groups. Governments of the world also use it to get the population to go along with their agendas. It's an old trick used again and again throughout history. Look back to A.D. 64, August 10th. History tells us that Nero, the Emperor of Rome, set the city ablaze while he fiddled. Apparently he thought the Christians were getting too popular, and, after this event was blamed on them, people were happy to rip them limb from limb in the arenas. This is just one example, albeit from ancient times, of a government creating a crisis and then offering up a solution to the population who will go along with it out of fear and safety. Lets look at some more modern examples of this trick.

On February 27th 1933, the Reichstag government building in Germany went up in flames. The Reichstag was seen as a symbol of German independence, built by the first chancellor of the second German Empire in 1871. Bismarck had created Germany through a series of wars leading up to 1870. The Reichstag building was a reminder to people of Germany's great past and the burning was an insult to Nationalism and Democracy. Within hours of the fire, 4,000 people suspected to be communists were arrested. Hitler declared a state of emergency and used part of Article 48, which stripped people of their civil rights. This fire was a major stepping stone to Hitler becoming the Fuehrer of Germany. The Nazis claimed that this was the work of a Dutch Communist- Marinus van der Lubbe. However, many historians believe that the Nazi's themselves were responsible for the fire. If they were, it wouldn't be the first time in history that a government created a crisis, blamed their enemies and then used it to their advantage for power and profit. In Hitler's case, becoming Fuehrer, stripping German citizens of their rights (under the guise of security) and eventually kicking off World War 2 when he invaded Poland in 1939. The German people were told that Poland was about to attack them, and they needed to go to war. However when the smoke cleared, it turned out that Hitler fibbed about that. Hmm.

December 7th 1941. Japan warplanes strike Pearl Harbor in what was said to be a "surprise attack". However, according to government documents declassified in 1994, the attack was only a surprise to the American citizens. The Federal government of the time apparently knew of the attack in advance, as the Army board that investigated all events concluded in 1944. Some of these historical records also show that President Roosevelt himself knew up to 12 days beforehand of the exact date, time and place Japan would strike. This was due to warnings from other countries and a call from Winston Churchill letting him know that Japanese carriers had changed course and were on their way to Pearl Harbor. So why didn't he do anything? This horrible attack, of course, got Americans outraged for revenge and Roosevelt (who campaigned on keeping the US out of the conflicts going on overseas) to send this country into World War 2. The rest is history.

Despite evidence from the 1944 board hearings and other memos right there in black and white that questions the official story we've all been taught in school, documentaries and big Hollywood movies like Pearl Harbor are made that continue pushing what could very possibly be one of the biggest lies in American history. When those 1944 government documents were declassified 50 years later in 1994, some of the mainstream media outlets briefly mentioned them and that was that. Let's not bother updating the history books or be outraged that people inside government that we're supposed to trust are capable of such deception.

Lets go to an excerpt from a November 2001 ABC News story entitled "U.S. Military Wanted to Provoke War With Cuba" to explain this doozy.

"Code named Operation Northwoods, the plans reportedly included the possible assassination of Cuban émigrés, sinking boats of Cuban refugees on the high seas, hijacking planes, blowing up a U.S. ship, and even orchestrating violent terrorism in U.S. cities. The plans were developed as ways to trick the American public and the international community into supporting a war to oust Cuba's then new leader, communist Fidel Castro.

America's top military brass even contemplated causing U.S. military casualties, writing: "We could blow up a U.S. ship in Guantanamo Bay and blame Cuba," and, "casualty lists in U.S. newspapers would cause a helpful wave of national indignation."

A "helpful wave" of national indignation, huh?

It has also been established as fact that in 1962, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Lyman L. Lemnitzer, tried to convince President Kennedy to authorize an attack on John Glenn's rocket, or on a US navy vessel, to provide a pretext for invading Cuba. Think about that for a minute and ponder what that guy was trying to do. Are such tactics confined to history? Supposedly Kennedy was so outraged by some of this stuff being proposed to him that he began the process of showing a lot of these people the door and taking apart some of the more warhawk departments of his government. We all know what happened to him not too long after.

Dwight D. Eisenhower, in his 1961 Presidential exit speech, warned Americans about the growing "military industrial complex" that he saw growing within and influencing government. Evil men who seek power and money at any cost and who come up with things that would cause "a helpful wave of national indigation" amongst Americans that don't know any better to get them to go along with plans of war, destruction, conquests and murder.

Search Google for "Operation Northwoods", and you'll get a plethora of news articles, commentaries and information about this.

The ABC News article above about Operation Northwoods ends with "The scary thing is none of this stuff comes out until 40 years after".

Scary indeed.

What will come out about recent major events, such as September 11th, in 40 years? Currently, we're just told that Osama and his group of thugs planned the attacks on the Trade Center and Pentagon. In fact that was out there within hours of the attack. A few months later he supposedly admitted this on a tape that was found. Forget that Osama was trained and funded by the CIA at one point and that the Bush and Bin Laden families were (still are?) in business together. In fact Osama's brother was meeting with Bush Sr. the morning of the attacks. Go figure. A couple days later, he and the rest of the Bin Laden family in the US were apparently allowed to board a jet and leave the country without questioning, while the rest of us could not fly. Lets not look into the fact that many of the people that had a lot of power at that time (Cheney, Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz, etc) started a group called the Project for a New American Century in the 90s during the Clinton administration, and they wrote essays about just that - how to make a more powerful America in the next century. One particular essay taked about how "some catastrophic and catalyzing event, like a new Pearl Harbor" would speed up their plans of basically taking over certain parts of the world, especially the oil-rich Middle East. Is that not just a little bit suspicious? It goes back to the Eisenhower warning above. It's almost unbelievable that they would actually put this to paper, but they do. ABC's Nightline with Ted Koppel actually covered this "Project for a New American Century" on March 5th 2003 before the Iraq war began, yet most Americans have no clue about it. Furthermore, what about people within the US government telling other countries of their plans to invade Afghanistan and building up troops in the area months before September 11th? Many of the newspapers in these countries wrote articles about it while Americans were basically kept in the dark. Our wonderful mainstream media at work. Then there was Condoleezza Rice calling up then-San Francisco Mayor Willie Brown, and telling him not to fly on September 11th. In case you missed that, the assistant to the president for national security affairs, called a friend the day before 9/11 and told him to stay off planes. I'd bet the people who were killed in those planes would have liked to get that warning, too. But wait, there's more. What about the unusual insider trading that happened days, even hours before the attacks? Who knew that United and American Airlines stock was about to plummet? There was actually a brief investigation into this and it stopped cold. Most likely because it didn't lead back to scary looking bearded guys hiding out in caves, but rather some more prominent folks and people who had to have known ahead of time and used this information for their own personal gain. Recently it's been admitted that the Iraq war was also planned as early as January 2001. What a stroke of luck the Bush administration had with 9/11. Osama and his group of terrorists struck just in time to anger the American people to allow them to kick off these pre-planned wars - first in Afghanistan then the expansion into Iraq. These are just a few of many strange occurrences and unanswered questions that point to another possible deception at the expense of the American people. An event that clearly caused "a helpful wave of national indignation" which pretty much allowed the total destruction of two countries, the murder of millions, and an economic boom for just about anyone in the national defense, weapon and oil industries. Record profits made on this neverending "war on terror".

However, mention some of these facts to most Americans, and they'll look at you like you've got two heads because it goes against what the government pundits and the mainstream media repeat constantly.

Surely our governments and elected leaders would never ever lie to us. They're all such perfect and honest people.

“If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State.” - Joseph Goebbels, Nazi Propagandist

Will it take 40 years to learn the full truth about September 11th? There are entire books and web sites dedicated to this event and a possible cover-up.

Some are clearly authored by kooks, while others raise very valid questions and have documents, video and more to back up their points. Also many of the families that lost loved ones that day have been speaking out after learning many of the facts mentioned above. Just recently a Zogby poll came out saying that 50% of New Yorkers believe the government knew about 9/11 beforehand and did nothing.

Are there psychos and terrorist groups that like to blow up stuff for their causes? Of course. However, history has shown us that governments just about everywhere have also used (and covertly supported) "terrorism" to help advance their agendas and control the populations they're supposed to represent. That "helpful wave of national indignation". Furthermore, the people usually end up finding out the true story behind events years after the fact, when those that were behind the acts are long gone and the next generation doesn't care and/or doesn't notice it repeating with a new group of tyrants.

On the bright side, thanks to the internet, we might not have that long with more recent and future deceptions. Past deceptions are being exposed left and right to the point where governments are reclassifying old documents set to be released into the public record.

Perhaps they're worried about something?

"Why of course the people don't want war. Why should some poor slob on a farm want to risk his life in a war when the best he can get out of it is to come back to his farm in one piece? Naturally the common people don't want war neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, it is the leaders of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country." - Herman Goering at the Nazi Nuremberg trials
